The find of the day -we’ve come across this amazing 1919 edition of Louis Golding’s ‘Sorrow of War’. Golding went on to a very distinguished literary career, best known for his novel Magnolia Street, published in 1932. He’s pretty much forgotten now, which is a shame. But not at The Society Club – we’re thrilled to have this book in-stock.
This lovely booklet just arrived, published in 1950 by Housewife Magazine to commemorate her 83rd birthday. Besides having a smashing cover design, it’s also filled with some fantastic photos.
Today I priced our new selection of rare books, including this gorgeous hardback edition of Contemporary French Poets published in 1912. Including poets Arthur Rimbaud and Albert Samain.
“I turned silences and nights into words. What was unutterable, I wrote down. I made the whirling world stand still.”
A new feature – I’ll highlight items that have recently gone on-sale at The Society Club. Besides all the gorgeous books, art, photography, prints, tea, coffee, cakes and crumpets – we have a nice and sometimes odd collection of bits – including Constance Spry vases and Coronation Glass Plates …
Today, this gorgeous 1953 Coronation Glass Ashtray arrived. It’ll make a brilliant gift for someone. It’s hard to find great ashtray’s these days! Especially ones with The Queen on them.
Happy to report that we now have stock on some gorgeous vintage coronation plates, pin dishes and even this stunning Wedgwood embossed 1953 ashtray…
It is difficult for me not to take all of this home.
